Question asked from this chapter in examination depends on the symbolic and mathematical operation.
In symbolic operation an arrangement of numbers, alphabets and symbols is given.
To solve symbol based question a candidate must have the knowledge about the symbols and mathematical rules. Mathematical operation is based on BODMAS rule, which has been discussed earlier in the chapter Mathematical operation (Chapter No.-12).
Symbolic Operation
Symbolic Operation is a process to judge the ability and presence of mind of a candidate that how he/she justify an article with a particular symbol.
Example Choose the appropriate combination of signs to solve the given equation. SSC (10 + 2) 2012
(23-5)* (12÷2)* 3* 4
(a) ++=
(b) -÷=
(c) x÷=
(d) +-=
Answer:
(b) Given, equation = (23 – 5) * (12 ÷ 2) * 3 * 4
From option (b), put signs according to the question
(23 – 5) – (12 ÷ 2) ÷ 3 = 4 => 18 – 6 ÷ 3 = 4 => 12 ÷ 3 = 4 =>4=4
Example If P stands for -,Q stands for ‘x’, R stands for ÷, ‘S’ stands for “+’, then what is the value of the given equation?
14 Q 3 P 12 S 4 R 2 =?
(a) 17
(b) 32
(c) 28
(d) 6
Answer:
(b) As, P => -, Q=>x, R =>÷, S=> +
Therefore, 14 x 3 – 12 + 4 ÷ 2 =>14 x 3 – 12 + 2=>42 – 12 + 2=>44 – 12 =>32
