A series is a sequential arrangement and pattern of figures following a certain rule. The candidates are required to identify the rule of the sequence i.e., the rule on the basis of which the series continues and determine the answer that follows. .
In these questions, generally there is a group of four figures which is known as question figure/problem figure and the another set of fair figure is called answer figure marked (a), (b), (c) and (d). You are required to choose the correct answer figure keeping in mind all the possible change in the figures (whether it is movement, rotation or deviation). Each frame of the problem figure generally continues to change from left to right in specific order. This specific order provides a clue to get the required answer. The best way to adopt to get the answer is elimination process. In this, generally, we choose the answer figure after analyzing each and every element, from frame to frame considering its change in movement, direction and rotation.
The most commonly applied patterns for the formation of a series are as follows.
1. Clockwise or Anti-clockwise Rotation of Designs
In this type of questions, each preceding figure in the series in rotated at a certain angle either in clockwise or anti-clockwise direction to obtain the subsequent figures. This rotation of figures can be done either by same angle or by some different angles in an orderly manner.
2. Addition and Deletion of Designs
In this type of questions, each subsequent figure of the series is obtained by addition and/or deletion of designs in the preceding figures. Sometimes this addition and/or deletion of designs can happen along with rotation of figures.
3. Replacement and Rearrangement of Design
In this type of questions, each subsequent figure of the series is obtained when the designs inside the figures are replaced by new designs or the position of the designs are rearranged with some modification or alteration. Sometimes this replacement and/or rearrangement of designs can also take place along with rotation and addition/deletion of the design.
(d) In- each subsequent figure both types of designs interchange positions and the number of these designs is increased alternately
