Series can be defined as a sequence or pattern of alphabets/words. In this type of series, the letters of English alphabets are arranged in a some pre-defined patterns like skipping of letters between them, in pair of opposite letters, continuous sequence of letters etc. The candidate is required to study the given series, identify the pattern followed in the series and then complete the given series with most suitable alternative.
Some of the different types of series are explained below
Single Letter or Group of Letter Series
These series are formed by skipping a pre-defined number of letters between the consecutive terms. This skipping can be in forward order or in backward order or can be in both directions in a group of letter series.

Answer: (a) The pattern of series are as follows
Example: AZBY, CXDW, EVFU, ?

Answer: (d) The pattern of series is
Continuous Series
Continuous series consists of a series of small letters that follow a certain pattern like repetition of letters or an increasing order in every block may be there.
Method to Solve Continuous Series
- Firstly, count the number of blanks and given letters.
- Divide the whole sum of blanks and letters by a multiple.
- Note down the pattern common to all groups separately.
Example: Find the continuous pattern in the following series.
Multiple of 12 is 6 x 2, 4 x 3 and 12 x 1. We choose the smallest one i.e., 3 x 4. So, divide the above series in a unit of 3.
